Mountain Advocacy Summit

The Ministry of Forests and Environment organized the Mountain Advocacy Summit (MAS2022) on 20–21 September 2022 in Jomsom, Mustang. Co-organizers included FAO, DCA, ICIMOD, IUCN, UNDP, UKAid, NTNC, and the event was managed by KIRDARC Nepal. The summit was inaugurated by Hon’ble Pradeep Yadav, Minister for Forests and Environment, with a virtual address by Rt. Hon’ble Sher Bahadur Deuba, Prime Minister of Nepal. Hon’ble Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel, Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, attended as a special guest.



The summit marked the culmination of Nepal’s celebration of the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development (IYM2022). It gathered ministers, government representatives, development partners, CSOs, private sector stakeholders, and local officials to highlight Nepal’s mountain agenda. The event concluded with a 28-point declaration addressing six key themes: agriculture, biodiversity, women, culture, climate, and disaster risks.
