Marine and Community Conservation Externship
🌊 National Geographic Society + The Nature Conservancy are teaming up to support the next generation of ocean advocates.
This 8-week remote Externship gives students ages 18–25 the chance to explore real marine conservation challenges and translate global ocean issues into local action. You’ll work alongside experts from the National Geographic Society and The Nature Conservancy while building research, storytelling, and community-engagement skills.
Here’s what participants will do:
✅ Investigate marine challenges like overfishing, habitat loss, and ocean acidification
✅ Interview community leaders and conservation experts
✅ Design solutions that strengthen local ocean stewardship
✅ Build a portfolio-ready Esri StoryMap showcasing research and insights
Along the way, you’ll develop marine-systems literacy, research methods, science communication skills, and cross-sector collaboration experience, all through a flexible 10 hours/week remote program.
Students who complete the program also receive a $500 stipend.
