Prajwol Bickram Rana

Kathmandu, Nepal

Prajwol is a lawyer, climate change researcher, and activist. He is currently the Membership Engagement Coordinator of the World’s Youth for Climate Justice-Asian Front.

Prajwol successfully led a campaign for the participation of the Nepal government in the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion proceedings on climate change and human rights. He led, strategized, and participated in frequent meetings with high-ranking officials, culminating in Nepal’s historic participation in the ICJ proceedings. Prajwol and his team co-authored the written submissions for the Nepal government to present to the ICJ. He values applying his knowledge of international law in practice through this campaign.

As a Research Consultant at the University of Colombo's Centre for Environmental Law and Policy, Prajwol is working on a UNDP-supported project on Crimes against Future Generations. He led a research initiative with South Asian researchers and published a research book titled "A Study of Climate Change Laws and Policies in South Asian Countries" in 2022. He also worked as a legal researcher for Leave it in the Ground Initiative to develop the portal for a database of climate change litigations.

Prajwol expanded the reach of the University of Cambridge's Democratising Education for Global Sustainability and Justice Programme in South Asia as a Course Ambassador. With nine years at Amnesty International Nepal as a member, he now coordinates its International Human Rights Issues Committee. He speaks frequently on climate justice at forums including the side-events of Conference of Parties (COP 28) of UNFCCC.

Prajwol completed the Climate Law and Governance Specialisation Course at the University of Dubai in 2023 and has received awards for his contributions to climate research and advocacy.
