Maya Kandel

Maya is a passionate Climate justice activist and International Youth Change Maker (IYCM) Ambassador for Nepal (2024-2025). Her advocacy for Climate education and passionate for climate diplomacy and negotiation.

Maya's journey includes serving as an Advisory Council member for the U.S. Embassy Youth Council Nepal, 2023 cohort, where she contributed to the Community Engagement Project (CEP) on "Digitalization of Indigenous Practices on Climate Crisis." As a former research intern at the SAARC Secretariat, she honed her skills in research on the UNFCCC negotiation process and international cooperation to foster global climate action, working in the Division of Environment, Natural, and Biotechnology (ENB) under the supervision of the Director of Bhutan for Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies in SAARC Member States.

Maya is a graduate student of Environmental Science, a "Youth for Climate Action" fellow of the British Council in Nepal, and an Environment Leadership Program fellow of WWF Nepal. These roles have enabled her to mentor youth leaders in implementing community engagement initiatives.

In 2018, Maya received the "Empower Nepali Girls Education Scholarship" for her bachelor's degree, and in 2023, she received a scholarship to address "Women in the Frontline Addressing Global Challenges" from South-East Asia Pacific at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Currently, Maya works as a Climate Educator at the Center for Climate Studies, focusing on academic research and being involved as a Foreign Affairs Department Officer at Prisma Television, leveraging her expertise in international relations to foster global climate action. Her primary focus remains on climate education and youth empowerment, through innovative approaches to combat climate change and advocate for sustainable solutions and an equitable future for the next generation.
