Ghanshyam Bhattarai

Ghanshyam Bhattarai is a passionate youth leader dedicated to creating a better world. After earning his Bachelor’s in Food Technology, he initiated a campaign that educated thousands of students in Nepal on food safety. For the past six years, he has focused on empowering youth to engage in sustainable agrifood systems and combat the climate crisis.

Currently, Ghanshyam works as the Strategy and Innovation Lead at the World Food Forum Nepal chapter, where he works closely with FAO Nepal to engage and empower youth in the food and agriculture sector through various capacity-building programs and learning opportunities.

Ghanshyam has been the Regional Coordinator for South Asia at the Thought For Food Foundation since 2022. He led the Redefining and Empowering Food Technologists (REFT 2020) hackathon, which addressed food security issues, and convened the UN Food Systems Summit 2021 Independent Dialogue, bringing together stakeholders from the entire food supply chain. Ghanshyam’s leadership extends to policy drafting and analysis, mentoring young innovators, and conducting workshops and events. He is an alumnus of FAO’s Food & Climate Shapers Bootcamp and UNICEF's Youth Engagement for Climate Action Program Fellowship. Last year, as a Focal Point, he organized the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) 2023 in Nepal, further showcasing his commitment to youth empowerment and climate action. His ultimate goal is to contribute to the food sector and its sustainability with a global perspective and a local impact.
